The other day my son did his first day of Kindy Readiness Program at our small local school. Exciting! Yes! Terrifying YES YES YES!!!
I have no problem with the school or its teachers and having a small kindy group of only 7 students is fantastic....but I have a son with PDD-NOS. It helps make him exactly who he is which is a bright, funny boy who loves building trains or lego creations. And he LOVES tractors (part of the name of the blog!)
It also means he suffers with anxiety and one of his biggest coping mechanisms is to stay home and then you wont get frustrated, upset or confused with his environment or other people. It took me 2 hours to get him ready for school, coercing, bribing, using anything I could think to encourage him to go. I was exhausted before I even got him there. Imagine how he must feel.
All in all he had a great day. He made a spaceship and was very proud of everything else he brought home. This was a huge relief for me knowing that if he had've had a terrible day I would never have got him to go back.
So with trepidation and a little excitement he gets to go back to school this Thursday......lets hope he has another great day!
